Widefind start-up will deliver positioning solutions for LKAB underground operations in Kiruna, Sweden.

EIT RawMaterials partner LKAB is a high-tech mining company from Sweden that operates the world’s deepest iron ore mines. LKAB is working on the underground mine of the future, which will be carbon dioxide-free, digitalised and highly autonomous. Using Widefind solutions for the exact locations of the people and assets underground will be an essential part of the realisation of this vision.

Through Widefind unique positioning solutions for complex industrial environments, the start-up helps customers in the industry to manage operations with a focus on safety, efficiency and productivity. By allowing customers to track their assets, machines, and people with high accuracy in real-time Widefind enables the right decisions to be made in a timely manner.

Accelerating novel solutions to the market

Widefind is a member of the EIT RawMaterials Innovation Community. In July 2019 the start-up received RM Booster funding to develop further positioning solutions for the underground mining industry, solutions that can help facilitate increased automation underground.

With a paradigm shift in technology for our partners in enabling the transition to automatisation and green energy, Widefind as a deep tech start-up with an ambitious and dynamic team has shown excellent progress and attracted a great deal of interest among our industry partners. The team has both highly valued core competence and capacity to understand and adapt to user needs which makes Widefind business journey and future so exciting.

Furthermore, the Widefind team is taking part in the RM Accelerator programme working closely with EIT RawMaterials Business Development Managers to accelerate their novel solution to the market. In December 2019, the team graduated from Phase 1 – Invent that supports top innovation teams offering new products or services for the European raw materials sector.

In January 2020, the start-up was accepted to the Phase 2 – Build of the RM Accelerator. The program is tailored for start-ups that have an innovative solution for the raw materials sector and its suppliers, and an opportunity for rapid growth. RM Accelerator programme will support the team with coaching and access to the EIT RawMaterials partner network, as well as provide financial support.
