EIT Community developing cutting-edge solutions to pressing global challenges
On 8-9 December, the EIT Community will celebrate the achievements of outstanding graduates, entrepreneurs and innovators supported by the EIT Community, highlighting their cutting-edge solutions inspiring new generations across Europe. Innovation is at the forefront of the Green Deal for a sustainable and competitive Europe, and a core element of the European Commission’s post-COVID-19 recovery strategy towards a green and digital future.
The 28 nominees will compete in the following four categories that represent the driving dynamics of entrepreneurship in Europe:
- EIT CHANGE Award, recognising top graduates from EIT entrepreneurial education programmes
- EIT Innovators Award, highlighting teams and individuals that have developed high-impact products and services
- EIT Venture Award, showcasing start-ups and scale-ups that have benefited from business acceleration and creation support by the EIT Community
- EIT Woman Award, putting the spotlight on inspiring female entrepreneurs and leaders
The public will also be able to have its say by voting for the winner of the fifth category, the EIT Public (Citizen) Award. Online voting for the EIT Public Award closes at midnight on 8 December 2020. Support the nominees with your vote!
Nominees from the EIT RawMaterials Innovation Community
This year, the EIT RawMaterials Innovation Community is represented by four outstanding innovators contributing to the sustainable development of the raw materials sector with groundbreaking solutions.

EIT CHANGE Award Nominee: Digitalising material measurement for the mining & metal industry
Arpit Singh Parmar, Project Manager at METHEORE, is a graduate of the EMerald Master in Georesources Engineering, EIT-labelled programme. Arpit works on a LaserSieve, a non-intrusive and non-disruptive online 3D solution that measures the throughput, size and shape of materials operating in harsh industrial environments. METHEORE solution enhances the occupational safety standards of the workplace by reducing human exposure to high dust environment and hazards.

EIT Innovators Award Nominee: From surface to subsurface exploration
María José Jurado, staff Researcher Spanish National Research Council CSIC, is dedicated to innovation for efficiency in subsurface exploration. María works on the INNOLOG innovation project that aims to transfer sensor technologies used in labs and surface exploration to subsurface exploration. The solution will lead to an increase in resource efficiency and environmental impact.

EIT Venture Award Nominee: A digital platform to shake the metals marketplace
Frank Jackel, Co-founder & Managing Director of Metalshub that has disrupted the metals marketplace. Metalshub provides a digital marketplace for metallic raw materials. The platform offers additional services such as logistics, credit insurance, financing, and customer due diligence. Metalshub’s high trading liquidity provides accurate and reliable price indices to the industry and supports supply chain transparency.

EIT Woman Award Nominee: Giving a second life to steel waste
Manuela Brotto, CEO at OPIGEO, founded her start-up inspired by an idea of giving a second life to steel waste. OPIGEO converts waste into new materials for construction or manufactured goods. Offering a “zero waste” service to the steel industry, the team develops geopolymeric formulations to produce hydraulic binders and market their low environmental impact applications.
