Join an EIT-Labelled Master programme and become a global game-changer!

From the iron and steel of our railway networks, required for transporting people and goods, to the gold and silver used in the circuitry of mobile phones, needed for transmitting information, materials are vital for modern life. Materials are also crucial for the transformation to an economy that emits fewer greenhouse gases. Electric vehicles need cobalt and lithium for rechargeable Li-ion batteries, photovoltaics and solar panels rely on silicon, and gearless wind turbines require rare earth elements to generate renewable energy.

Materials are also finite. Smart, circular, resource-efficient ways to secure the supply of primary and secondary materials for the European industry and economy are in demand. We need people with the right knowledge, skills and attitudes to pioneer this transition. Our EIT-Labelled programmes prepare students to be part of the solution!

EIT RawMaterials Academy‘s master programmes offer you:

  • The chance to develop and use your scientific knowledge to tackle sustainability challenges
  • Unique courses, training programmes and bootcamps to give you valuable entrepreneurship and innovation skills
  • Access to the world’s largest consortium in the raw materials sector, through industry events and internships to help you build your network in the sector and identify employment opportunities

EMerald Master in Resource Engineering

EMerald is a two-year, EIT-Labelled Master’s programme designed to focus on the following major aspects of Resources Engineering: Characterisation, Processing, Modelling and Management.

The Programme’s aim is to address the challenges of the circular economy, whilst providing a strong background in process engineering, together with a good understanding of the complexity of natural resources. In addition to this, EMerald addresses both primary and secondary raw materials subjects, including urban mining and landfill mining. The academic partners of the EMerald Master programme are the leaders in the field of recovering resources from end-of-life products and the EMerald programme is unique in its academic offer to jointly address the challenges of mineral processing and recycling.

Selected EMerald students can benefit from Erasmus Mundus joint scholarships, covering full tuition fees and living expenses. Furthermore, eligible self-funded students will be awarded an AVSA scholarship by EIT RawMaterials worth EUR 13,500 to support their expenses.

The EMerald master programme is delivered and awarded by University of Liège, University of Lorraine, Luleå University of Technologyand TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

For September 2020 entry, non-EU (self-funded) students should submit their applications by 30 April. EU students may submit applications to the master programme and Erasmus Mundus scholarship by 15 May 2020.

SINReM International Master Programme in Sustainable and Innovative Natural Resource Management

Science and engineering graduates are invited to submit their applications to join the EIT-Labelled SINReM master programme! Be part of the paradigm shift enabling industry and society to deal more carefully and sustainably with our planet’s resources. SINReM students gain an overview of the raw materials value chain and the circular economy while learning to innovate the recycling processes of raw materials and wastewater and develop sustainable extraction processes for waste streams. Furthermore, they learn new ways to explore mineral resources and to minimise waste and pollution by recycling and reusing materials in the drive towards smart cities.

Applications remain open for EU citizens to join the programme in September 2020. Eligible self-funded students will be considered for EIT RawMaterials AVSA grants scholarships worth EUR 13,500 towards their expenses.

The SINReM master programme is delivered and awarded by Ghent University, Uppsala Universityand TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

Application deadline is 1 June!
