Purpose and intended learning outcomes

This is an introductory course in entrepreneurship and business development for academic researcher and students in geology or mining and material science. The hypothesis is that a lot of academic researchers have ideas, insights and technologies that may be turned into valuable business, but they lack the competence in business development. The aim of the course is to educate in basic business development and help academic researchers with good ideas to take them one step further.

Prerequisites (academic, special skills needed)

No specific prerequisites. However, there are a number of workshops in the course in which the students are supposed to develop business cases for their own ideas or technologies to be commercialized. Therefore, it is excellent if you have an invention of your own to bring to the course to develop further. If you do not have an invention or technology to develop into a business, you are still welcome and can follow the course by working with a selected demo invention.
