EIT RawMaterials is a key European actor established in 2015 to advance Europe’s transition into a sustainable economy. EIT RawMaterials overarching mandate is to support securing the supply of critical raw materials to the European industry by driving innovation along the raw materials value chain. EIT RawMaterials builds on the world’s largest network of partners in raw materials and advanced materials.

EIT RawMaterials provides a collaborative environment for disruptive and breakthrough innovations by connecting more than 300 partners from industry, academia, research, and investment. It also invests in the future generation of innovators for the raw materials sector through initiatives ranging from the education of school students to higher qualifications for industry professionals.

Partners of EIT RawMaterials are active across the entire raw materials value chain, from exploration, mining and mineral processing to substitution, recycling and circular economy. They collaborate on finding new, innovative solutions to secure supplies and improve the raw materials sector in Europe.

EIT RawMaterials aims to significantly enhance innovation in the raw materials sector by sharing knowledge, information and expertise: entrepreneurs, start-ups, and SMEs receive funding and support through our partner network and collaboration activities.

Value proposition and partner benefits

EIT RawMaterials supports innovation and education projects from development to commercialisation. Support includes co-creation and open innovation involving start-ups, acceleration, go-to-market strategy, professional education, investor outreach and dissemination. All partners receive access to the digital collaboration and networking platform, as well as networking and matchmaking events to meet leading experts from industry, research and education.

EIT RawMaterials partners benefit from preferred access to the network and respective servicing components. Interested parties can choose a partner category:

  • Core Partner: Full access to strategy and governance
  • Associate Partner: Shared access to strategy and governance
  • Project Partner: Shared access to strategy and governance

EIT RawMaterials holds an annual Call for Innovation & Education Projects for its partners to submit project proposals in the fields of innovation, education projects, and the RIS Capacity Building Scheme. EIT RawMaterials creates a unique opportunity for partners to network and find potential project partners.

EIT RawMaterials supports the most promising solutions, which leads to an increase in resource efficiency, a reduction of environmental impacts and increased security of supply of materials that serve societal needs. This strengthens European industrial competitiveness and contributes to increased employment and growth.

The Core, Associate and Project partners are selected based on the shared mission to enable sustainable competitiveness of the European minerals, metals and materials sector along the value chain by driving innovation, education and entrepreneurship. Each partner pays an annual membership fee and is a voting member of the association at the General Assembly, which takes place twice a year.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the EIT RawMaterials Innovation Community, please get in touch with your regional Innovation Hub.

EIT Regional Innovation Scheme

The EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS) is a structured programme to support the integration of the Knowledge Triangle (connecting partners from leading industry, academia and research organisations) and increase the innovation capacity in areas and regions in Europe not directly benefiting from the EIT and its Innovation Communities.

We currently work with partners in the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine.

Country and regional activities focus on professional education, ideation and acceleration, and inter-regional activities include capacity building, scaling and demonstration.

If you have any questions or want to become involved, don’t hesitate to get in touch with EIT RawMaterials Innovation Hubs – Regional Centers.
