Welcome to our new Partner: Mineraria Gerrei

EIT RawMaterials is excited to welcome Mineraria Gerrei to our growing network of more than 300 partners. Together, we aim to accelerate innovation, strengthen collaboration, and advance circular economy solutions across Europe’s raw materials sector.

Mineraria Gerrei: Advancing Europe’s Critical Raw Materials Supply

Mineraria Gerrei is an Italian mining company founded in 2018 and headquartered at the historic Silius mine in Sardinia—one of Europe’s most important fluorspar deposits, for which it holds exclusive mining rights. The company focuses on the extraction and processing of fluorspar and associated minerals, which are essential for a wide range of advanced industrial applications and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Its operations are based on modern extraction technologies and circular economy principles aimed at minimising environmental impact, with an expected annual production of around 70,000 tonnes of high-grade fluorspar (>97.5%) and approximately 6,000 tonnes of galena as a by-product. As a critical raw material, fluorspar plays a key role in battery production and is also used in fluoropolymers, steel and aluminum, photovoltaics, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, and other advanced materials.

Mineraria Gerrei combines strong technical expertise with research collaborations involving Italian universities and research centres, while maintaining close engagement with local communities and adhering to environmental, economic, and social sustainability principles.

In doing so, the company contributes to the reshoring of critical raw materials production and supports Europe’s ambition to strengthen strategic autonomy and secure sustainable supply chains for future technologies.
