Rare Earth and Magnet Technologies: From Pilot to Industrial Scale

Europe is racing to build domestic capabilities in rare earth metallurgy, permanent magnet manufacturing and recycling — critical to strategic sectors like automotive, wind energy, defence and robotics. But while raw material supply, financing and market development have dominated the conversation, one piece is often overlooked: the technology and equipment needed to scale from pilot demonstration to competitive industrial production.

Industrial success isn't just about equipment access — it depends on process technology, engineering know-how, automation, commissioning expertise, digital process control and hands-on operational experience. Europe already has real strengths in mechanical engineering, vacuum technology, automation, powder processing and recycling. Yet critical dependencies remain in areas like strip casting, rare earth metallurgy, advanced powder processing, magnetic alignment, grain boundary diffusion and integrated production know-how.

This round table brings together industry leaders to examine whether technology and equipment are the real bottleneck for Europe's emerging rare earth value chain — and what it will take to close the gap.

Why Attend?

This session will help you:

  • Identify where Europe already has competitive, world-class industrial technology and equipment capabilities
  • Understand the remaining dependencies on non-European technology, equipment and process know-how
  • Learn practical lessons from recent rare earth metallurgy, magnet manufacturing and recycling projects
  • Get a clear read on technology readiness and expected demand for industrial production lines through 2030
  • Explore the business case for building technology and equipment capacity in Europe
  • Walk away with concrete priorities — partnerships, investments and policy actions — to strengthen Europe's industrial competitiveness and build a resilient rare earth value chain

Who Should Attend?

  • Equipment manufacturers and process technology providers
  • Rare earth metallurgy and magnet manufacturing companies
  • Recycling and circular economy specialists
  • Automotive, wind energy, defence and robotics industry representatives
  • Engineers, R&D professionals and technology scouts
  • Investors and industrial strategists
  • Policymakers and EU institutional stakeholders
  • Anyone working on Europe's rare earth and permanent magnet value chain
