The next-generation cooling and heating solutions

Timur Sirman, Co-Founder & Managing Director of MagnoTherm Solutions, is among the brightest young entrepreneurs featured in Forbes Under 30 DACH. Timur Sirman and his team founded a deep-tech start-up in the field of clean energy to develop and build the cooling systems of the future. On 17 December 2021, you can join the online event with Forbes to meet the exciting community of changemakers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland shaping a sustainable future.

According to the report “The Future of Cooling” by the International Energy Agency (IEA), using air conditioners and electric fans to stay cool accounts for nearly 20% of the total electricity used in buildings around the world today. The rising demand for space cooling is also putting enormous strain on electricity systems in many countries and driving up emissions. The use of air conditioners and electric fans already accounts for about a fifth of the total electricity in buildings worldwide – or 10% of all global electricity consumption.

MagnoTherm Solutions bridges the gap between understanding magnetocaloric materials and engineering magnetic refrigeration devices. MagnoTherm Solutions uses an innovative configuration of components and highly effective materials that have no direct CO2 emissions and are 40% more efficient than conventional cooling systems. Based on many years of pioneering research on first-order magnetocaloric materials and recycling permanent magnets, MagnoTherm Solutions harnesses this profound experience by designing next-generation cooling solutions.

I have made it my mission to create the necessary awareness for this underrated branch of industry, and with our products, I will drastically reduce emissions in the future.

Timur Sirman, Co-Founder & Managing Director of MagnoTherm Solutions (translated from German)

MagnoTherm Solutions pioneers magnetic refrigeration based on multi-physical simulations, additive manufacturing methods and fast testing cycles. The technology is based on solid-state materials and water and can revolutionise the way we provide temperatures. The team can build the next-generation cooling and heating solutions by updating the standard gas compression cycle with the start-up’s magnetic refrigeration cycle.

With my path, I want to inspire people to look for complex solutions to the climate change problem, develop the necessary willingness to take risks, and awaken the necessary inventive talent.

In July 2021, MagnoTherm Solutions closed a EUR  600 000 financing round from the German federal government’s package of measures for start-ups, which is being handled through various VCs. In the case of MagnoTherm Solutions, the fund is handled by High-Tech Gründerfonds. The start-up has successfully raised EUR 1.4 million pre-seed fundings from the Germany Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy with EXIST Forschungstransfer as well as the other programmes from ESA, EIT RawMaterials and Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt.

EIT RawMaterials supports entrepreneurs shaping the future of Europe

EIT RawMaterials has been supporting MagnoTherm Solutions start-up since 2019. Last year, the team graduated from Phase 1 – Invent and Phase 2 – Build of the EIT RawMaterials Accelerator, a pan-European programme turning innovations into market-ready products and services, and in 2019 received Booster funding to reach pivotal milestones in technology development.

EIT RawMaterials team congratulates Timur Sirman on this recognition of the vital work MagnoTherm Solutions is doing and its impact on the green future of Europe.
