EIT RawMaterials also had a booth at the event, which gathered hundreds of participants from Finland and elsewhere in Europe and was co-organised by DIMECC, one of the EIT RawMaterials partners.
The theme of the event was “Towards Outcome Economy”, and it featured high-profile plenary speakers from big companies such as Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz Vans, Rolls-Royce Marine, Valmet Automotive, Kone Corp., Tieto Corp., Siemens, Dassault Systemes etc. Concepts discussed at the conference include Industry 4.0, IoT, artificial intelligence and digitalisation.
Other EIT RawMaterials partners in attendance included VTT, Aalto University, Metso Minerals and Mondragon who had the booth at the event. Sandvik Mining and Construction and EIT RawMaterials Booster Call grantee 2016, Process Genius were also present at the event.
The EIT RawMaterials staff enjoyed a successful event, recruiting several leads for potential partners and project participants, and we are looking forward to the next Manufacturing Performance Days in 2019.
EIT RawMaterials is happy to announce the collaboration with ELAN Network launching Technology-Based Businesses Opportunities in Resource-Rich Developing and Emerging Economies (TREE) project. The main objective of the TREE project is to internationalise the activities of EIT RawMaterials in Latin America leveraging ELAN Network and developing a specific raw materials perspective.

Christian Olsson is a co-founder of Sustainalube, which has developed a new type of industrial lubricant that is completely water soluble and oil-free. This could revolutionise the industry and can be applied to a variety of fields. It uses glycerol as a base to create a lubricant that could replace more harmful alternatives in sectors such as the mining industry. Sustainalube was the winner of the EIT RawMaterials pitch event in Stockholm, Sweden, in February 2016.

Opening Ceremony of the EIT RawMaterials – Regional Center Freiberg
On 20 October the Saxonian secretary of state of science and art, Uwe Gaul, und the rector of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht, jointly opened the EIT RawMaterials Regional Center Freiberg. The scientific institutions in Freiberg want to promote regional networking and academic education in the raw materials sector through the local office. The project office will be lead by two professors of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Prof. Dr. Urs Peuker, Institute Director of Partical and Processing Technology, and Prof. Jens Gutzmer, holder of the professorial chair for economic geology and petrology and director for resource technology at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg.
