The European Union (EU) is one of the major trading partners of Nigeria. Solid minerals raw materials are critical to the EU industrial sector and economy. However, some factors, which include increased demand by emerging economies, shift in trade policies, inadequate supply and increasing demand by the producing countries amongst others, are limiting accessibility to these raw materials. Consequently, the EU industries need to explore new sources of mineral raw materials to mitigate the risk of non-availability and ensure sustainable operations. The data on Nigeria’s solid mineral raw materials sector will assist raw materials supply chain managers, prospective investors and researchers with information on availability, quantity, quality, sustainable supply and government policies in the mineral raw materials sector to plan their operations and make sound business decisions.

Programme

Course description

The course will discuss Nigeria’s selected solid mineral resources, their distribution across the country, estimated and proven reserves, classification according to uses, quality characteristics according to user industries specification, public and private sector organisations and their roles in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector, international trade in Nigeria’s solid minerals, government policies affecting exploitation, exploration and trade in the solid minerals sector, such as incentives, environmental and other regulatory issues.

The course is designed to provide information and knowledge on Nigeria’s solid minerals sector to enable participants from the European Union to identify suitable solid mineral raw materials for their operations, evaluate the suitability or otherwise of the raw materials, plan and make sound decision on solid mineral raw materials procurement and their sustainable supply, assess the impact of government policies on the solid mineral raw materials sector in Nigeria, analyse the roles and impact of public and private stakeholders on the sector.
