Magnetic materials are indispensable components for many future technologies, as well as for green energy production. In the coming years this need will almost definitely continue to grow steadily. In this contest, EIT RawMaterials will be present at the Industry Workshop ‘Magnetic materials, rare earth and value-added chains’, whithin the framework of the Fraunhofer-lead project ‘Criticality of Rare Earths’.

The objectives of the lead project are to increase resource efficiency, recycling and substitution of the strategic high-tech metals Neodymium and Dysprosium, indispensable in the production of permanent magnets due to their excellent magnetic properties.

Employees from eight Fraunhofer institutes are working together on new replacement materials, more efficient production technologies and new reusable and reusable concepts. The higher aim is to halve by 2018 the demand for these two rare earths for the production of magnets and to completely replace them in perspective, .

EIT RawMaterials will be represented by Dr Roland Gauß, who will be giving a speech on Friday 8 September 2017 at 14:30.

The workshop will take place on 7 and 8 September 2017.
