MINECLOSURE 2018 will be the 12th International Conference on Mine Closure, offering a multidisciplinary global forum to exchange views and developing capacity. The aim of this forum is to ensure that new mines are operated with closure in mind, and old sites are closed economically, while minimising environmental and social impacts.

Reclamation is an important and inseparable part of mining and compensates the unavoidable impact of mining activities on nature, landscape and the society. Without this compensation, mining would not be possible, neither from the perspective of the approval procedures nor considering the acceptance of society. Unfortunately, this is not a common practice in worldwide mining, even in developed countries.

MINECLOSURE 2018 Conference brings together various sectors, such as active large and small scale mining, abandoned mines, marine mining or illegal mining.

In cooperation with the ACG and EIT RawMaterials, the TU Bergakademie Freiberg will be hosting the MINECLOSURE 2018, welcoming many experts from authorities, planning companies, universities as well as companies active in mining and reclamation. In addition to the presentations and posters, there will be numerous opportunities for professional exchange and insights into successful mining and reclamation in Germany.

EIT RawMaterials team will be present with a booth and Krzysztof Kubacki, Innovation Hub Director (CLC East) will be a keynote speaker. More information will follow soon.

The conference will cover the following themes:

  • legal, financial, socio-economical and organizational aspects
  • planning, modelling and monitoring
  • case studies for mine closure
