On 31 January 2022, the European Economic and Social Committee will hold a conference on Critical Raw Materials: an essential building block for the future of Europe.

In the past year, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has been working closely with the European Commission and the European Parliament to convey the voice of organised civil society on the importance of critical raw materials to secure the resilience of European industry and society. It has adopted an opinion on this, held several meetings including a widely attended webinar and has joined the European Raw Materials Alliance (ERMA).

The conference builds on this experience to continue engaging civil society on this crucial issue for EU industry and society. The first panel will deal with the issue of securing the supply and resilience of critical raw materials to enable the green and digital transition. The second panel will deal with the importance of circularity and creating a market for secondary raw materials in Europe to secure the EU’s resilience.

Speakers include representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the EESC, as well as the social partners and other civil society organisations.
