The improvement of dust and noise management is a permanent challenge in mining and mineral processing regarding the staff as well as the environment.

Course Description

Trainees will get an overview how to assess the environmental and health situation for the own mining or processing plant, and the possibilities of improvement.

The course is structured in 3 parts:

  • Noise and Vibrations management (half day)
  • Air quality management (half day)
  • Field trip Fe-Mining site Erzberg (half day)

Course Content

Chapters of the training course: Noise and vibrations management

  • General information on the noise in mining industry
  • Industrial machines and their impact on people and environment (measurements, analysis, and minimizing of effects)
  • Noise protection measures
  • Introduction: Vibrations caused by blasting on open pit mines and their impact on people and environment (measurements, analysis, and minimizing of effects)
  • Vibration protection measures

Chapters of the training course: Air quality and dust management

  • How to quantify emission rates, in particular regarding diffuse emissions
  • Special focus on hazardous components as asbestos, quartz, heavy metals
  • Calculation and Measurement of environmental impact
  • Possibilities of improvement

This course is part of the project “CLC East Professional School“.
