The training will include both fundamental and practical aspects of the Powder Injection Mouldingtechnology (PIM), from the powder and feedstock development, to debinding and sintering.

In the first day one hour lectures will be given by academic experts to cover an overview of Powder Metallurgy and Powder Injection Moulding, as well as lectures to cover most of the single steps in the PIM technology. Two horizontal topics will be also included one related to materials characterisation and a session devoted to “team working”.

In the second day the training will be focused in the specific characteristics of the PIM technology applied to different materials families, such as steels, special alloys, light alloys, hard materials and ceramic materials. A topic related to molds and parts design will be covered by an industrial expert. During the second day, some exercises to be performed by the students in the format of team work will be prepared.

The third and fourth days will be devoted to lab work, covering the different steps of the PIM technology and a trip to an industrial company (Alfa-MIM).

Finally the last day of the training will be focused on some special features such as “special PIM methods”, cost related issues and future developments. These topics will be covered mainly by industrial experts. This last day there will be time for the students to present their results from the team exercise, as well as to perform the evaluation.
