The course on Circular Residue Usage in the Metallurgical Industry is developed within the EIT RawMaterials Academy and is aimed for professionals in metallurgical industry and research institutes, PhD students, environmental agencies and decision makers. Engineers new in the area can get a quick start at the new job positions, and experienced ones can reach a broader knowledge on cross-sectorial opportunities.

The course includes a webinar introducing the course and the participants, and also giving a brief overview on secondary materials, their origin and characteristics as well as possible use. Moreover, possible case studies for training will be discussed and initialised. The webinar is followed by a face-to-face intensive course and a final follow-up seminar for case study presentations.

Knowledge on secondary materials that will be delivered covers secondary materials generated in different metallurgical industries as well as EOL products. Origin and characteristics for these materials, and also possibilities and challenges in recycling to existing processes in e.g. steel, ferroalloys and base metals production, will be addressed. Pre-treatment methods, agglomeration and specially-designed processes for recycling will also be covered. Aspects on cross-sectorial possibilities, environmental issues and economy will to some extent be included.

Project organisation

The CIRRUS project is coordinated by Swerea MEFOS with Luleå University of Technology, University of Oulu, KU Leuven and LKAB as partners. It is co-funded by EIT RawMaterials in connection with CAMM (Centre of Advanced Mineral and Metallurgy).
