A new flagship initiative – Hubs for Circularity (H4C): Concept, opportunities & challenges for a successful implementation’ that will take place from 10:15 to 16:00 am on the 21st April 2021.

Stakeholders and experts from industry, SMEs, RTOs, academia, MS and regions will discuss how to progress on consolidating aspects regarding the implementation of H4Cs that require a consensus agreement from the community. The main objective of the workshop will be to prepare for future calls on H4Cs in order to ensure that key aspects for effective implementation are identified and tackled in advance to reach high participation, outstanding proposals and a high success rate. The H4Cs will be key instruments to advance the R&I agenda of European industries towards the Green Deal’s objectives. Practical examples and lessons learned will show that making the transition to Industrial symbiosis, Urban Industrial symbiosis and circular economy provide gains that out weight the effort and risks.

The first part of the workshop will be opened by Peter Dröll, Director Prosperity, DG R&I, followed by Peter Berkovitz, DG REGIO – Head of Smart and Sustainable Growth Unit, and with information on the concept, why it could make the difference for achieving the Green Deal objectives and how it would be an opportunity for EU regions. A panel discussion will follow with examples of successful first implementations. The afternoon part will introduce the challenges for a successful implementation: communication, IPR, regulation and standardization, access to energy and resources, investments beyond HE. Four panel discussions will be organised with speakers from industry, EU projects and the Commission. The closing remarks will be given by Jürgen Tiedje, Head of Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Biotechnologies Unit, DG R&I.

The registration will be open until 18 April and must be done by sending an email to RTD-H4C-WORKSHOP-0421@ec.europa.eu
