The EU-Latin America Partnership on Raw Materials Conference will take place fully online onĀ 24 and 25 November 2020.

This Conference, organised in the framework of the EU-Latin American Raw Materials Partnership, brings together the mineral raw materials community including policymakers, industry, the private sector and research and innovation in the EU and Latin America and is free of charge. It aims to promote and intensify cooperation and direct knowledge exchange between the EU and Latin American partner countries, based on their common interests, goals and shared values.

The world is facing unprecedented challenges due to population and economic growth, climate change and the crisis triggered by COVID-19. Both the EU and Latin America need to work to achieve a sustainable recovery. The commitments towards a green and climate-neutral economy will trigger increased demand for and diversification of raw materials. This will bring opportunities to resource-rich countries but also considerable pressure, as the raw materials need to be produced sustainably and responsibly and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, starting at the level of local communities.

The EU and Latin America share the interest to look into these opportunities and challenges and discuss how to address them in the context of existing cooperation, with a view to building integrated value chains for key industrial ecosystems such as renewable energy, e-mobility and digitalisation.

The Conference will deliver insights on how to strengthen cooperation between the EU Member States and Latin American countries, how to build partnerships to integrate European and Latin American raw materials value chains and how to trigger investments and technological development. Starting with a high-level political event on the first day, the Conference will offer a programme of key thematic sessions during the second day. Networking opportunities will be organised to facilitate contacts. Simultaneous interpretation for participants in English, Spanish and Portuguese will be available both days except for the networking event.

The Conference is part of the EU-funded project ā€œEU-Latin America Partnership on Raw Materialsā€ and directly linked to the Mineral Development Network Platform.
