High Level Conference will mark an important milestone in joint efforts between the EU and Ukraine to foster enhanced cooperation on climate change, environmental protection and decarbonisation of energy and mobility systems
On 13 July, Bernd Schäfer, CEO, Managing Director at EIT RawMaterials, will speak at the High Level Conference on the Strategic Partnership between the European Union and Ukraine on Critical Raw Materials and Batteries that will take place on in Kyiv, Ukraine. Bernd Schäfer will present the role of EIT RawMaterials and the European Raw Materials Alliance (ERMA) in this Strategic Partnership and the EU-UA business integration along the critical raw materials value chain.
The Conference will mark the launch of the Strategic Partnership between the European Union and Ukraine on developing sustainable, responsible and integrated value chains for raw materials and batteries. This Partnership will allow the European Union and Ukraine to build stronger political ties and economic links, and represents an important milestone in enhanced cooperation on achieving green and digital transformation.
Today, we are in the middle of disruptive innovation in emerging green energy, e-mobility and clean technology, triggered by pressing societal challenges. Raw materials are the nucleus of our modern society and the key to a more sustainable future. Ukraine is a resource-rich country geographically close to the EU and with tremendous potential for further development. Alongside primary resources, there are large volumes of waste materials available for re-processing.
The signature of a Memorandum of Understanding on the Strategic Partnership will take place during the morning session dedicated to political leaders perspectives. The afternoon session will gather key EU and Ukrainian stakeholders to exchange on how to foster development and attract investment in raw materials and batteries value chains.
The Conference will take place in the Intercontinental Hotel in Kyiv, in presence of Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission and of Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine.
