General election regulations, including terms of office:

1. Following the first official election in Jan/Feb 2020, there should then be an election every year (in January/February).
2. The term of office for all positions is 2 years, with the exception of the Founding Board who may serve for a term of 2 years 6 months.
3. At each election, therefore, ideally 50% of the Board positions should be made open. 50% of the Board should remain in place and serve out their 2 year term of office to ensure continuity.
4. After their term of 2 years (or in the case of the Founding Board, 2.5 years), members of the existing Board may stand for re-election by entering the open election. Members can serve on the Board in the same role for a maximum of two consecutive terms (4 years) and in different roles for a maximum of three consecutive terms (6 years total).
5. If members of the Board wish to step down before the end of their term of office, they can do so at any time, but must give notice 2 months in advance. Depending on when this occurs, there will either be an ad-hoc election solely for their position, or the Board will run at reduced capacity until the next official election. This decision can be made by the Board at that time, depending on the urgency of the situation.
6. Elections will be run for specific positions, depending on which members are finishing their term of office (or have chosen to step down).
7. Election eligibility and timeline:
Elections will be announced approx. 1 week before the nominations can be submitted.
Once nominations open, there will be a 3-week period where Alumni members may submit their applications to stand for election (by submitting a short motivation letter and/or video)
Following the submission of candidates, the voting period will be one week. In this time all eligible Alumni members may view the candidates’ motivations and submit one anonymous vote per position, via an online election tool.
8. Any Alumni member may announce that they would like to stand for election, providing they are over 18, signed up to the mailing list, are not employed by EIT RawMaterials GmbH, are not currently on the Label Student Board, and live within Europe (as they will have to attend physical meetings 3 x per year).
