New Skills Agenda for Europe

On 6-7 February 2020, the kick-off meeting for the Blueprint for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills for energy-intensive industries/industrial symbiosis (SAIS) took place in Brussels. The blueprint for sectoral cooperation on skills is one of the key initiatives of the new skills agenda for Europe.

Sectoral skills alliances will develop and implement strategies to address skills gaps

Under the blueprint, stakeholders work together in sector-specific partnerships, also called sectoral skills alliances, to develop and implement strategies to identify and then address skills gaps in these sectors. As an associate partner of SAIS, EIT RawMaterials and our Innovation Community members IMN, Suez, ART-ER and MITILINEOS will assess skills gaps in economic sectors and the potential impact of these gaps on growth, innovation and competitiveness and will contribute to development and implementation of the sectoral skills strategy. Also, EIT RawMaterials is involved in the steelmakers’ cooperation, ESSA, Industry-driven sustainable European Steel Skills Agenda and Strategy, a part of the Blueprint consortium.

The Blueprint provides a framework for strategic cooperation between key stakeholders such as businesses, trade unions, research and training institutions and public authorities in a given economic sector. These industry-led partnerships develop sectoral skills strategies and concrete actions, such as new or updated training programmes. These will help foster new opportunities for investment, innovation, growth and jobs.
