Founded in 2012, Process Genius is a software company offering 3D Digital Twin applications that enable complete situational awareness 24/7. Process Genius’s user interfaces gather information about the industrial plant’s back-end systems and present it in an easy-to-understand, visual and structured form. The 3D Digital Twin application is also increasingly used in the sales organisation. The application enables a fast 3D solution identical to the physical model in cooperation with the customer. All the employees can utilise it throughout the organisation from the ground level up to top management.
Process Genius’ scalable Digital Twin platform, Genius Core™, is used to collect, visualise and integrate all the necessary information and data flows from multiple sources and systems into one intuitive and easy-to-use digital user interface.
Genius Core™ is the world’s first Digital Twin platform that is fully scalable and easy to deploy even in challenging environments with complex processes and numerous data sources. The multi-layered 3D user interface allows integrating all the necessary data in a visual way that is easy to understand and interpret.
Finland-based start-up expanding horizons
Process Genius has been developing its 3D Digital Twin for several years and several different sectors. The mining sector seemed like an exciting and potential new segment to explore with its complex industrial processes and sophisticated systems for collecting production-related data.
The start-up team has been piloting the 3D Digital Twin solution with a mineral processing plant. The pilot has allowed for valuable international collaboration and helped identify the key value-adding features of Process Genius’ Digital Twin for users in a mineral processing context. Moreover, it opened up the possibility of securing long-term commercial partnerships in the minerals sector.
Since Process Genius’ Digital Twin allows for complete situation awareness 24/7, with any device and internet connection, many tasks can be carried out remotely, e.g., technical assistance/troubleshooting, process analysis and optimisation. This creates safer working conditions, especially during the pandemic and potentially opens up employment opportunities for a larger, geographically more dispersed pool of applicants. The Digital Twin also improves occupational safety by allowing all employees easy access to up-to-date safety information and instructions. Last but not least, it helps mineral processing plants improve their efficiency, thus helping reduce the environmental impact of their activity.
In 2017, Process Genius was granted funding from EIT RawMaterials Booster and obtained a Seal of Excellence by the European Innovation Council (EIC) in 2018. These references have opened the door to more information and networking with the EIT RawMaterials Innovation Community.
EIT RawMaterials has been a great reference for Process Genius as it has enabled the start-up to lower risk in testing and piloting new projects. The end of the year 2018 is a period of particular importance as it was when Process Genius started its profitable growth.

Last year, Process Genius received funding as part of the EIT RawMaterials Booster Call in response to the COVID-19 crisis. The financial support helped Process Genius improve the technological compatibility of their Digital Twin solution with standard IoT platforms. Especially, Process Genius was able to build connectivity with minerals processing reference framework and complete market launch to enable scalable growth outside Finland.
