Apply to our Call for RIS Hub Activities today

EIT RawMaterials is inviting universities, NGOs, companies, and any legal entity or consortia from Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) regions to apply for funding for our RIS Hub activities. Funding of up to €1.7 million from 2023-2025 is available. The initiative aims to scale-up innovation in the raw materials sector of countries/regions deemed to have a moderate rate of innovation on the European Innovation Scoreboard. Successful applicants will partner with EIT RawMaterials, the world’s largest raw materials innovation community, to intensify innovation in their local regions.

RIS Hubs work to achieve the EIT RawMaterials’ mission to enable sustainable competitiveness of the European minerals, metal, and materials sector by driving innovation, education, and entrepreneurship. To date, EIT RawMaterials has established six RIS Hubs across Europe. This latest call will enable the expansion of activities through existing, and brand new, RIS Hubs, across raw materials industry, education, and research – the knowledge triangle. Activities will be closely aligned with the EIT RawMaterials Strategic Agenda.

The call is open to raw materials-focused organisations and consortia in Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Greece, Serbia, Slovakia, Southern Spain (primarily but not exceptionally from Andalusia, Extremadura, and Murcia regions), Slovenia, and Croatia.

Proposals must be submitted in English online through this link, no later than 13:00 CET on Monday 16 January 2023.

Full details can be found in the Call for EIT RawMaterials RIS Hub activities – Instructions and process description.

Announcing the Call for RIS Hub Activities, EIT RawMaterials RIS Manager, Tina Benda said:

The RIS countries and regions are emerging as innovation hotspots across the entire value chain of raw materials – and this is crucial for Europe’s green and digital transition. The EIT RawMaterials Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) works to bolster innovation and develop the opportunities in the region. With today’s call for proposals, we are putting RIS into action with more momentum than ever before. We look forward to expanding our current RIS Hub activities that have successfully created regional innovation ecosystems spanning education, industry, start-ups, research, and entrepreneurs. And we are eager to work with enthusiastic partners leading EIT RawMaterials RIS Hubs to ratchet-up deep innovation.

Terms and conditions

The participation is open to any registered organisation or consortia from the respective countries where the EIT RawMaterials RIS Hub will be established. In the case of a consortium, the Activity Coordinator (Lead) must be clearly defined and named. Any organisation (EIT RawMaterials partners and non-EIT RawMaterials partners) from the respective RIS countries can be the Lead Applicant (Coordinator) of a project proposal. Cooperation between non-EIT RawMaterials partners and EIT RawMaterials partners (core, associate, or project) is possible in a consortium.

All kinds of legal entities registered in the eligible countries are welcome to apply to the call (e.g. universities, companies, NGOs, etc.). It is not required to apply with a group of local partners, but it is an advantage to show the potential of the new EIT RawMaterials RIS Hub to be a driving force for the local raw materials ecosystem.
